History Satchel

Satchel is a band from Seattle, USA, formed in 1991, featuring Shawn Smith (vocals, piano and guitar), Regan Hagar (drums), John Hoag (guitar) and Mike Berg (bass) who replaced original bassist Cory Kane in 1995.

To date, Satchel have released two proper albums, EDC (1994) and The Family (1996), with a new album expected in 2010. Most of "EDC"'s song titles were taken from characters names in the cult classic movie "Reservoir Dogs"-one of the bands favorite movies.

Originally, Satchel also had a saxophone player named Jefferson Bennett when they called themselves 'Bliss'. This was until they were met with a copyright name challenge. They relinquished the name to a 'Bliss' out of Canada thereby settling on 'Satchel' at the same time eliminating the sax all together.

In early 1995, the bassist Cory Kane was replaced by Mike Berg because of personality conflicts.

Eventually, Satchel was folded into the band Brad with Stone Gossard. In 2009 a statement was released via Shawn Smith's website and on MySpace announcing that Satchel had been recording new material, and that a new record, entitled Heartache and Honey would be expected sometime in 2010. All original members of Satchel will be featured on this album, excluding Mike Berg.

In 2005, Brad released an album of previously unreleased tracks from both Satchel and Brad called Brad vs. Satchel.

Satchel has their song 'Suffering' in the movies: Beautiful Girls, The Girl Next Door, and was on a One Tree Hill episode. Additionally, the song 'Walk in Freedom' can be heard in the movie Strange Days.
