History RxGF

Since 2010, producers John Morgan Reilly and Jonathan Plum have combined ominous music and shadowy songwriting to create a unique musical experience that's landed RxGF somewhere between underground dance and darkwave industrial, having freely evolved from moody downtempo and alt punk.

Various publications and blogs have noted that RxGF truly have an innovative sound, suggesting that some songs may be perfectly described as a new niche called Electro-Grunge. The current incarnation prominently features the brooding and haunting vocals of Angeline Schaaf, whose dynamic performances weave together an epic soundtrack of tribal drums and layered synths.

Reilly's concept of RxGF began as Radioactive X Girlfriend with true open-journal experiences spanning 3 full-length records pleasantly innovating and bluring the lines between Electronic, Industrial, Triphop, and Darkwave Indie. The latter description depicts their new electronic sound with explorations into hybrid realms with their appropriately sleeker moniker, RxGF. It's not a huge surprise that their latest voyage, Any Other Way, is decidedly more electronic and sublime as they've been hinting at psychedelic and electro goth for the past 3 years. The band also went live in 2014, and plans to perform in the Seattle area as well as shows in Canada, and on both coasts.

Brief History

RxGF's current origins begins with Reilly collaborating with Seattle vocalist, Angeline Schaaf, releasing the Belladonna Dream single which possesses a psychedelic dream pop sound, a decidedly more electronic and atmospheric incarnation. With Angeline's voice clearly front and centre in most songs now, RxGF's sound has allowed for more space which naturally emphasizes the cabaret and calm of Angeline's chill-goth vocal stylizations.

The band has a history of collaborating and recording with many musicians and producers including New Zealand born British singer-songwriter Daniel Bedingfield, Josh Greenberg (The Ruby Doe), Dave Brozowski (Catheters, Tall Birds), Dave Rosser (Twilight Singers, Mark Lanegan), Jol'e Williams (So A.D.D.), and Jonathan Plum (Blind Melon, Candlebox, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden). The diversity of musical talent sculpts their dynamic sound which, historically has varied in genre between each release.

The Music

Currently the band is focused on a hybrid of electronic layers and raw rhythms and beats with Angeline Schaaf delivering melodic anthems based on everything from prophetic visions to space-age reverie. Their past two full-length releases cover a colourful spectrum. 2012's All Blade No Handle is a classic sampler of their wide range of musical ability. On this record, the band blends acoustic and electronic in a way that allows the music to cross genres-- from Shoegaze to Neo Folk, from closed-fisted alt rock to ambient psychedelic soundtrack. The band's sound is cinematic and ominous in nature, and continues to soar to greater heights with their craftily guilded electronic edge. 2011's The Art Of Splitting is nothing shy of shoegaze punk with tight rhythmic turn-arounds, hypnotic electro-folk, interspersed with a few radio-friendly tunes as well.
