History
Born 3/31/1935 in Los Angeles, California. Producer/composer/trumpeter/bandleader. Played trumpet since age eight. Formed A&M Records with Jerry Moss in 1962. Used studio musicians until early 1965, then formed his own band, the Tijuana Brass. During the 60's, they had many memorable instrumental hits, such as "A Taste Of Honey" (#7), "Tijuana Taxi" (#38), and "Spanish Flea" (#27), better known as the theme to the TV show "The Dating Game".
He had several solo hits, including two number one songs. "This Guy's In Love With You" spent four weeks at #1 in 1968. Alpert sang lead vocals on that song. "Rise" spent two weeks at #1 in 1979. This and most of Alpert's other songs were all instrumentals, where his trumpet was the featured instrument.
