Corrie van Binsbergen - guitarist / composer

Corrie van Binsbergen is one of the most prominent players of the Dutch Jazz scene. Sparkling with new ideas and projects she is always versatile and dignified whether she is playing her guitar or composing music for the most famous Dutch ensembles a.o. Asko-Schoenberg Ensemble, Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, Holland Festival, Scapino Ballet, Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Corrie van Binsbergen has a classical background but has always been active in a very wide musical range. This broad musical background can be heard in her music, which isn’t' directly to be labeled with an existing category. It's a synthesis of jazz, rock, composed and improvised music. In 1999 she received the VPRO/Boy Edgar prize (the most prestigious award in Dutch jazz- and improvised music) for her creativity, craftsmanship and versatility. Following the words of the music critics she is "one of the most remarkable voices in improvised music".

In 1996 Corrie van Binsbergen initiated a unique project: Corrie en de Grote Brokken, a cooperation of top musicians from the pop and jazz world. "The sharpness of Frank Zappa and the emotion of Jimi Hendrix" was written in the Dutch press about the group and Corrie herself was titled as "mother" Corrie or the "Dutch Zappa" with "absolutely her own voice". In that same year she started her own foundation 'Stichting Brokken' realizing a new, surprising and successful production every one or two years, bringing together different musical styles and art forms. In 2003 she experimented with the combination of literature and music. This was such a success, that since then several famous Dutch writers have worked with her and still are. In 2008 she founded her own record label 'Brokken Records'.

Corrie van Binsbergen plays with her quartet CRAM and solo, duo and trio with different musicians, such as: David Kweksilber, Tobias Delius, Frans Vermeerssen, Joost Buis, Wolter Wierbos, Angelo Verploegen, Eric Vloeimans, Anton Goudsmit, Albert van Veenendaal, Alan Purves, Michael Vatcher, Arend Niks, Hein Offermans, Wilbert de Joode, Ernst Glerum.
