Historia Deacon Blue

Deacon Blue fue fundado a finales de 1985 por el cantante y compositor Ricky Ross y el percusionista Dougie Vipond, a quienes se unieron Graeme Kelling, el bajista Ewen Vernal y Jim Prine a los teclados.

Todos ellos vivían en Glasgow y pronto se integró en la banda Lorraine McIntosh, esposa de Ross, que en los coros dio la contrapartida colorista a la sobriedad propia del grupo.

Deacon Blue saltó a la fama a finales de los ochenta y principios de los noventa con canciones como "Dignity", "Wages Day", "Real Gone Kid" o "Fergus Sings The Blues" que tuvieron un gran éxito en el Reino Unido y Europa.

El grupo siempre intentó alejarse de las etiquetas, elaborando una música fresca y vibrante y unos textos cargados de contenido, lo que dio lugar a un estilo que la prensa calificó como "delicado pop otoñal", por sus sonidos nostálgicos y ligeramente tristes.

La banda, que llegó a publicar cuatro discos, se disolvió en 1994, tras la edición de Whatever you say, say nothing (1993), aunque se reunió, con algunos cambios, en 1999 para ofrecer una serie de conciertos y grabar un álbum de baladas titulado Walking Back Home.
