Biography 黃貫中

Paul Wong (黃貫中) (Born March 31, 1964) is a singer/songwriter best known as the lead guitarist and vocalist for the now defunct Hong Kong band Beyond.

Up til date, Paul has released 7 EPs and albums, the latest being the Mandarin version of the album 'I Still Exist' in 2007. Paul Wong is one of the few famous artists in Hong Kong who writes his own music and lyrics. Furthermore, he regularly criticizes the Hong Kong media for the lack of focus on the actual music at stake. Perhaps to set an example, he organized the Let's Fight-concert in 2007 where various indie bands had the opportunity to present themselves in front of a larger audience. Although his album-efforts are not chart-toppers, he is still widely respected for his work and dedication in music. In fact, he is viewed by many as the representor of 'band' or 'rock'-music in Hong Kong.

Late June 2008, Paul Wong introduces the third round of the Let's Fight concerts, which proved to have exhibited enough excitement for a follow-up.

Short history with Beyond:

In 1985, he started his professional music career by joining Beyond, which fast became one of the most important bands in Hong Kong. The tragic death of lead singer Wong Ka-Kui in 1993 led to large uncertainties about the future of the band. Fortunately for the fans, the band decided to continue as a trio, and has eventually led to three more studio-albums. In the late 90s however, the band members wanted to take some time off for their solo efforts. The official split-up came into existence in 2005, after their first ever world tour. Later it was rumoured that the split was due to a clash between Paul Wong and bassist Wong Ka Keung. In a 2008 interview, drummer Yip Sai Wing confirmed the clash, and said that it was a simple 'misunderstanding'. Wong Ka Keung himself expressed deep wishes for a reunion, and said that he definitely would find time to contact Paul. Paul however, has consistently drawn himself from clear comments concerning a possible reunion with Ka Keung or Beyond, and ask the media to put the attention to the music instead.

In June 2008, Paul Wong attended the tribute concert for Ka Kui that Ka Keung organized. They shared onstage appearances together with Sai Wing. As a highlight point, Ka Keung even hugged Paul, which was an evident crowd-pleaser. Afterwards however, tabloids again put doubts on, what they described as, the forced hug between the two. This time, both Ka Keung and Paul Wong dismissed the bad press, and both reacted in a way of 'I think we simply cannot do it right in front of the press'.

July 24 -26 2009, Paul Wong and Steve Wong reunited for Live Show at Hong Kong Coliseum titled THIS IS ROCK & ROLL
