History

Arthur Rubinstein (born Artur Rubinstein; January 28, 1887 – December 20, 1982) was a Polish American classical pianist renowned for his international acclaim and exceptional interpretations of a diverse range of composers. He is widely considered the preeminent Chopin interpreter of his era. The New York Times recognized him as one of the most significant pianists of the twentieth century, and his public performances spanned an impressive eight decades.

Rubinstein's first name saw variations in usage. While his given name was Artur, he preferred to be known as Arthur in English-speaking countries. However, his United States impresario, Sol Hurok, advocated for the name Artur, leading to his recordings being released under both Arthur and Artur in the West.
