Kruder & Dorfmeister: Pioneers of Downtempo and Chillout Remixes

Austrian duo Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister achieved international recognition for their distinctive downtempo and chillout remixes. Their signature sound often incorporated elements of bossa nova and jazz, applied to a diverse range of artists spanning from Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Depeche Mode to Roni Size and Madonna.

Early Success and The K&D Sessions

Their 1993 EP, G-Stoned, featuring the hypnotic track "High Noon," garnered critical acclaim, particularly in the UK. Gilles Peterson championed the track on his renowned Worldwide show, bringing the duo to wider attention. While celebrated for their remixing prowess, notably compiled on the 1998 double album The K&D Sessions, Kruder & Dorfmeister also built a reputation across Europe for their dynamic live DJ sets and, to a lesser extent, their original compositions.

Solo Projects and Label Endeavors

Beyond their collaborative work, the artists pursued individual projects. Dorfmeister teamed up with Rupert Huber to form Tosca. Kruder launched his solo project, Peace Orchestra, releasing an album in 1999, and later collaborated with two other musicians on the Voom Voom album Peng Peng, released on the !K7 label in 2006.

The duo established their own recording studio and label, G-Stone Records, which not only released their own material but also works by Peace Orchestra, Dub Club, and Sugar B.

Anniversary Celebrations and Live Performances

2010 marked the 16th anniversary of Kruder & Dorfmeister and G-Stone Recordings, celebrated with the release of the compilation Sixteen F**kin Years Of G-Stone Recordings. This milestone also saw the development of the "K&D Sessions Live" show, a production enhanced by visuals from longtime G-Stone collaborator Fritz Fitzke and MC performances by Earl Zinger and MC Ras T-Weed. The show achieved significant success with performances at major festivals like The Big Chill and Berlin Festival, leading to an extensive world tour.
