ROSALÍA

ROSALÍA Vila Tobella, known mononymously as ROSALÍA, is a Spanish singer and songwriter celebrated for her genre-bending musical approach. Born and raised on the outskirts of Barcelona, she has redefined what it means to be a pop star by seamlessly blending diverse musical styles.

Early Life and Musical Education

Her fascination with Spanish folk music began at age 13, leading her to study musicology at the Catalonia College of Music. During her studies, she honed her performance skills in musical bars and at weddings.

Breakthrough with "El Mal Querer"

ROSALÍA graduated with honors, presenting her collaborative album with Raül Refree, Los Ángeles, and her baccalaureate project, El Mal Querer. This groundbreaking album reimagined flamenco by infusing it with pop and hip-hop elements. Singles like "Malamente" and "Pienso en Tu Mirá" garnered significant public attention and critical acclaim. El Mal Querer not only earned her the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year but was also recognized by Rolling Stone on its list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, marking ROSALÍA's ascent onto the international music stage.

Global Success and "MOTOMAMI"

In 2019, ROSALÍA explored urbano music with her globally successful releases "Con Altura" and "Yo x Ti, Tu x Mí." Her third studio album, MOTOMAMI, took a departure from her signature new flamenco sound, offering an experimental take on reggaeton. The album garnered international acclaim with singles such as "La Fama" and "Saoko," and was lauded as the best-reviewed album of the year by Metacritic.

Accolades and Impact

Throughout her career, ROSALÍA has achieved remarkable success in her home country, securing ten number-one singles, the most for any local artist. Her numerous awards include a Grammy Award, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (with two for Album of the Year), four MTV Video Music Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, two UK Music Video Awards, and two Premio Ruido awards. In 2019, Billboard honored her with the Rising Star Award, acknowledging her role in "changing the sound of today's mainstream music with her fresh flamenco-influenced pop." She also made history as the first Spanish-singing act to be nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards.
