Rutland Boughton, born in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire on January 23, 1878, was a prominent English composer who gained recognition in the early 20th century for his contributions to opera and choral music. He passed away in London on January 25, 1960.

A student of Charles Villiers Stanford and Walford Davies, Boughton's compositional output was diverse. It included three symphonies, several concertos, part-songs, individual songs, chamber music, and operas, which he referred to as "Music Dramas" in the style of Wagner.
