Slayyyter: Pop Innovator and Nostalgia Weaver
Slayyyter, born Catherine Grace Garner on September 17, 1996, in Kirkwood, Missouri, is an American singer and songwriter recognized for her vibrant contributions to pop and hyperpop. Her music frequently draws inspiration from the distinct aesthetics of late 1990s and early 2000s popular culture. After attending the University of Missouri for a single year, Garner transitioned to pursuing her music career full-time.
Early Career and Rise to Prominence
Initially releasing material influenced by 1980s sounds on SoundCloud under the moniker Slater, she adopted the name Slayyyter in 2018. That same year marked the release of her debut single, "BFF," a collaboration with Ayesha Erotica. In February 2019, her single "Mine" garnered significant attention on social media, climbing to number 38 on the U.S. iTunes pop chart within its first 24 hours. The summer of 2019 saw her embark on her inaugural headlining tour, "The Mini Tour," with performances in major cities like New York City and St. Louis.
Mixtape and Debut Album
September 2019 saw the independent release of her self-titled mixtape, Slayyyter. The project achieved commercial success, reaching number 4 on the U.S. iTunes Pop chart and number 14 on the overall iTunes albums chart, significantly boosting her online presence and fanbase. Her debut studio album, Troubled Paradise, was released in June 2021 via Fader Label. Featuring collaborations with producers such as Wuki and Gupi, the album was met with positive critical reception, with reviewers noting advancements in her production and songwriting. The track "Daddy AF" was later featured on the soundtracks for the films Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022) and Anora (2024).
Second Album and Continued Growth
In September 2023, Slayyyter unveiled her second studio album, Starfucker. This release, described as an 1980s-inspired pop record, explored themes of celebrity culture and media portrayal. The album debuted at number 17 on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart, eventually peaking at number 10. Supporting the album, she launched the "Club Valentine Tour," which spanned from October 2023 to February 2024 across North America and parts of Europe. February 2024 also marked her debut on Boiler Room and the premiere of her single "Miss Belladonna."
Recent Releases and New Ventures
September 2024 saw the release of the single "No Comma." In 2025, Slayyyter collaborated with Kesha on the single "Attention" and joined her for the "Tits Out Tour." On August 1, 2025, she signed with Columbia Records and released "BEAT UP CHANEL$" as the lead single from her forthcoming third studio album, WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA.
