Chappell Roan (born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz on February 19, 1998) is an American singer and songwriter recognized for her theatrical approach to pop music. Working closely with long-time collaborator and producer Dan Nigro, Roan has developed a sound that blends 1980s synth-pop with early 2000s pop sensibilities. Her artistic identity is deeply rooted in drag culture and "camp" aesthetics, creating a persona that is both high-concept and emotionally resonant.

Roan’s professional journey began at age 17 when she uploaded an original song titled "Die Young" to YouTube. The track's success led to a recording contract with Atlantic Records. In the summer of 2020, she released "Pink Pony Club," a synth-pop anthem inspired by her experiences at a West Hollywood gay bar. While the song did not achieve immediate commercial dominance, it gained significant critical acclaim and a devoted cult following, eventually being hailed as a definitive pop standout in the years following its release.
