History

Daniel Caesar is a Grammy Award-winning Canadian singer and songwriter who has redefined modern R&B with his gospel-infused vocals and deeply emotive songwriting. Born and raised in a suburb of Toronto to Bajan and Jamaican parents, Caesar’s earliest musical education came from listening to soul and gospel, frequently singing in front of his father’s church congregation. Driven by a passion for music, he left home at the age of 17 to fully pursue his artistic calling.

Career Milestones

Independent Success and Freudian

Caesar initially built his audience through independent releases, dropping his debut EP, Praise Break, in 2014. The project garnered significant critical acclaim, landing on Rolling Stone’s "20 Best R&B Albums of 2014." He followed this with his second EP, Pilgrim’s Paradise, setting the stage for his monumental 2017 debut studio album, Freudian.

The record established Caesar as a leading voice in contemporary R&B, earning two Grammy Award nominations, including Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance for the hit single "Get You." The following year, he secured his first Grammy win for Best R&B Performance for the breakout track "Best Part."

Mainstream Breakthrough and Collaborations

Following his massive early success, the Juno and Grammy-winning artist released his critically acclaimed sophomore album, Case Study 01, in 2019. Caesar's global profile expanded even further in 2021 when he featured on Justin Bieber's multi-platinum, worldwide smash hit "Peaches" alongside Giveon.

Today, Caesar boasts over 5 billion streams across his catalog and ranks among the top 10 most-streamed Canadian artists of all time on Spotify. By consistently pushing the boundaries of the genre, Daniel Caesar continues to shape the future of R&B on a global scale.
