SETYØURSAILS
SETYØURSAILS is a German post-hardcore and metalcore band formed in Cologne in 2017. The group, currently comprising vocalist Jules Mitch, guitarist Andre Alves, bassist Nicolai Hoch, and drummer Henrik Kellershohn, has garnered a significant following by exploring themes of personal struggle, resilience, and mental health in their music.
Early Years and Debut Album
The band's initial lineup included former bassist Dominic Ludwig and former drummer Dizzee Pascal. Their debut album, Enough, released in November 2018, was a self-produced project conceived to showcase their material and facilitate live performances.
Major Label Debut and Nightfall
Their second album, Nightfall, marked their debut with Napalm Records in January 2022. Produced by Christoph Wieczorek and Julian Breucker at Sawdust Recordings, the album presented a more refined and polished sound. Nightfall featured a collaboration on the title track with Andy Doerner of Caliban, delving into the complexities of mental health and the internal conflict between seeking solace in darkness and the imperative to confront it.
In May 2022, SETYØURSAILS supported Annisokay on their European tour.
Evolution with Bad Blood
Prior to the release of their latest album, the band experienced a lineup change, with Nicolai Hoch joining on bass and Henrik Kellershohn on drums. Their album Bad Blood, released in April 2024, signifies an expansion of their sonic palette, incorporating rock 'n' roll and pop influences alongside their established style. Vocalist Jules described Bad Blood as representing a new phase for the band, emphasizing strength and the process of overcoming adversity.
The production of Bad Blood involved a unique remote collaboration, with Jules crafting vocal parts and working with producer Julian Breucker to develop instrumental arrangements around the vocal melodies. Jules has noted that the album serves as a departure from solely focusing on mental health struggles, instead highlighting the band's inherent power and drive. With Bad Blood, SETYØURSAILS solidifies a stylistic evolution that embraces pop-infused melodies, rock elements, and a more experimental approach, positioning them for continued innovation and surprise in their future work.
