Bongeziwe Mabandla

Bongeziwe Mabandla is a celebrated South African singer and musician renowned for crafting a distinctive Afro-folk sound. His music is characterized by a soulful vocal delivery, performed in both his native Xhosa and English. Drawing inspiration from influential artists such as Tracy Chapman, Simphiwe Dana, Jabu Khanyile, and Oliver Mtukudzi, Mabandla’s work possesses a deeply rooted, grassroots rhythm. He skillfully fuses elements of traditional Xhosa music with Mbaqanga, Soul, Hip-hop, and Dub, creating a unique and captivating sonic landscape.

Mabandla has graced the stages of some of South Africa's most prominent festivals, including the Cape Town World Music Festival, Oppikoppi, and Rocking the Daisies. His international festival appearances extend to the Sakifo Festival in Reunion and the Azgo Festival in Mozambique. His debut album, Umlilo, garnered significant recognition, earning two nominations at the South African Music Awards in 2013 for Best Newcomer and Best Adult African Album.
