Vegas Soul is the alias of Chris Cowie, a producer and DJ hailing from Aberdeen, Scotland. Born in 1969, Cowie emerged from a council estate background to achieve both mainstream and underground recognition through his prolific musical output and dynamic DJ and live performances.
Cowie's influence on the electronic music scene began to take shape in the early 1990s. In 1991, he established the record labels Hook Recordings and Bellboy Records. These labels, which operated until 2001, gained significant international acclaim and are recognized as some of the most successful and influential UK dance imprints of their era. The distinctive sound cultivated by these labels continues to inspire contemporary producers and musicians, with a substantial portion of their output being Cowie's own productions under various guises.
