Sandman
Finnish Electronic/Synthwave Act
Sandman is an energetic electronic music act hailing from Finland, specifically from Vaasa and Tampere. The group is comprised of three musicians: Jarkko Ripsomaa, Serdar Ilter, and Matti ”MattMagic” Meri-Huhti. Sandman is recognized for crafting high-energy tracks that blend elements of EDM and Synthwave with rock and metal influences.
Origins and Evolution
Initially conceived as a solo project by producer and synth enthusiast Jarkko Ripsomaa, Sandman began to take shape following the release of the 'Starcore EP' in early 2019. The success of the track 'Ignite' paved the way for expansion. In late 2019, Jarkko's close friend and dedicated guitar player, Serdar Ilter, joined the project. Together, they quickly produced two impactful tracks, 'Hardline' and 'Prophecy'.
Collaborations and Releases
In July 2020, Sandman contributed to 'Magnatron III', a significant release in the synthwave and darksynth scene. Their featured track, 'Destiny Unknown', was a notable success and well-received by listeners. The lineup further expanded in the summer of 2020 with the addition of Matti ”MattMagic” Meri-Huhti, known for his work with the Finnish metal band Vansidian. The trio began collaborating on material for an upcoming EP, culminating in the release of their five-track EP, The New Arcade, in February 2022. This release introduced their distinctive sound to a wider audience.
