History
Unit:187
Unit:187 is a Canadian industrial music project formed in Vancouver in 1994 by John Morgan and Tod Law. Drawing inspiration from the thriving Vancouver industrial scene, particularly the sounds of Front Line Assembly and Skinny Puppy, the duo released their self-titled debut studio album in 1995 through 21st Circuitry. The album laid the groundwork for their distinctive electronic sound.
Early Success and Shifting Labels
The band's sophomore effort, Loaded, arrived in 1998, featuring production by Devin Townsend. This album garnered significant critical attention, with several tracks achieving popularity on international industrial music charts. However, the subsequent collapse of 21st Circuitry Records in 1999 presented a challenge, prompting Unit:187 to seek a new label. They found this new home with COP International, which released their third album, Capital Punishment, in 2001.
