Scolohofo was a jazz quartet formed in 1999, bringing together four highly respected musicians: guitarist John Scofield, saxophonist Joe Lovano, bassist Dave Holland, and drummer Al Foster. While the group coalesced in the late 1990s, its members had a long history of collaboration prior to its formation.

The individual members of Scolohofo were already established figures in the jazz scene. John Scofield and Joe Lovano's musical partnership dates back to the 1970s. Furthermore, Scofield and Al Foster shared a significant period playing together in the 1980s as part of Miles Davis's band. The rhythm section of Scofield, Holland, and Foster had also previously worked together, notably backing saxophonist Joe Henderson on his 1992 album "So Near, so Far," a tribute to Miles Davis.
