Neptune Towers was an experimental electronic music project initiated in 1993 by Gylve "Fenriz" Nagell, best known as the drummer for the Norwegian black metal band Darkthrone. Described by Fenriz as "Avantgarde Astral Alien Synth," the project's stated aim was "To enable the listeners to keep both feet off the ground."
Fenriz cited German electronic music pioneers Klaus Schulze (of Tangerine Dream) and Kraftwerk as significant influences. This can be particularly noted in the elaborate sequencer patterns found on the album Transmissions from Empire Algol. The music of Neptune Towers is characterized by its slow tempos, minimalistic arrangements, and an otherworldly, atmospheric quality.
