Mind Odyssey emerged from the merger of two Berlin metal bands: the east Berlin group "Merlin" and the west Berlin group "Gracious Violence." The band was founded by Mario Le Mole (formerly of Merlin and Gracious Violence), Dan Uhden (Merlin), Rocco Stellmacher (Merlin), and Volker Schultz (Gracious Violence).
With the support of producer Frank Bornemann (Eloy), Mind Odyssey recorded a demo at Horus Sound-Studios, a studio known for its work with artists like Helloween, Victory, and Running Wild. The demo received a highly positive reception, particularly in Japan, where the prominent rock magazine "BURRN!" published rave reviews. This international success fueled growing domestic interest, leading to the band's first record deal.
