Biology was an indie rock band formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 2004. The band's core members included Francis Mark, Josh Newton, Cornbread Compton, and Brian McTernan. They announced their dissolution on April 4, 2008.
Fronted by Francis Mark, widely recognized for his roles in From Autumn to Ashes, Biology emerged from a desire to bridge the perceived gap between visual art and music. Mark aimed to revive a holistic artistic approach, reminiscent of the collaboration between The Velvet Underground and Andy Warhol in the 1960s. He expressed dissatisfaction with the contemporary music scene, viewing the word "art" as having become marginalized. Mark, a painter since his teenage years, sought to elevate public awareness of art's significance.
