History
Hexentanz
Hexentanz is a ritual ambient project based in Ashburn, Virginia, USA, exploring the themes and practices associated with the traditional Witches Sabbath through music and artistic expression.
Origins and Concept
The name "Hexentanz" literally translates to "the witches dance," reflecting the group's focus on recognizing the Witches Sabbath as a tangible reality. The project is a collaborative effort between members of The Soil Bleeds Black and Psychonaut 75. Hexentanz's music is deeply rooted in the practice of medieval black magic, utilizing a unique blend of authentic period instruments, synthetic ritual devices, human bones, and genuine arcane chants drawn from both medieval and contemporary witch cult traditions. This approach positions Hexentanz as a distinctive entity in its exploration of archaic music and magic, conceived within the living tradition of Left Hand Path practice and committed to an authentic elucidation of the medieval Witches Sabbat.
Discography
Hexentanz's debut release, "The Sabbat Comes Softly," was issued in 2002 as a limited edition 7" EP featuring tracks pertinent to the band's thematic expressions. Their subsequent CD, "Nekrocrafte," further solidified the Rites of the Witches Sabbat, serving as a gateway into the "Old Ways" manifested in contemporary form.
