The core lineup featured Janne Westerlund on guitar and Pekka Jääskeläinen on bass, with saxophonist Killi Härkönen completing the trio.

During their existence, Chainsmoker released two albums characterized by experimental electrorock sounds. The project concluded in 2003 following the tragic suicide of Killi Härkönen.
