The Manfreds: A Legacy of Hits and Evolution

The Manfreds emerged in 1991, a reunion of key members from the iconic 1960s band Manfred Mann. The impetus for this new chapter came from a highly successful and enjoyable reunion organized for Tom McGuinness’ 50th birthday.

Founding Members and Evolving Line-up

The initial formation of The Manfreds brought together original Manfred Mann members Paul Jones, Mike Hugg, and Tom McGuinness, alongside former member Mike d’Abo. This core group was augmented by Rob Townsend, previously of the band Family, on drums, Marcus Cliffe on bass, and Simon Currie on saxophone and flute, creating an exciting new iteration of the band.

"Hits, Jazz & Blues" and Solo Ventures

While Mike d’Abo occasionally participates with his blessing, a well-regarded line-up featuring Paul Jones, Tom McGuinness, Mike Hugg, Rob Townsend, Marcus Cliffe, and Simon Currie has become known for their engaging "Hits, Jazz & Blues" shows. This popular performance format skillfully blends classic Manfred Mann hits with solo material from the band members, often sprinkled with delightful surprises.

The "Maximum Rhythm 'n' Blues" Tour

The critically acclaimed "Maximum Rhythm ‘n’ Blues" Tour, typically held every other year, marks a special occasion where Mike d’Abo rejoins Paul Jones to share lead vocal duties. In celebration of 60 years of Manfred Mann, this tour offers an extensive showcase of their vast catalog of hits and beloved solo works in a concert exceeding two hours. This tour represents a significant opportunity to witness both original Manfred Mann lead singers performing together comprehensively, making it an event not to be missed.
