The Manfreds emerged in 1991, a reunion of key members from the iconic 1960s band Manfred Mann. The impetus for this new chapter came from a highly successful and enjoyable reunion organized for Tom McGuinness’ 50th birthday.

The initial formation of The Manfreds brought together original Manfred Mann members Paul Jones, Mike Hugg, and Tom McGuinness, alongside former member Mike d’Abo. This core group was augmented by Rob Townsend, previously of the band Family, on drums, Marcus Cliffe on bass, and Simon Currie on saxophone and flute, creating an exciting new iteration of the band.
