Anna Calvi

Anna Calvi, a singer and guitarist of dual Italian and British heritage, was immersed in a wide range of musical styles from a young age, thanks to her music-loving father. Her influences include classical composers such as Ravel and Debussy, and her own sound has been characterized as "brooding melodramatic goth-pop."

At 17, Calvi chose to pursue a music degree over art school, dedicating herself to honing her craft. She began forming musical collaborations, notably meeting percussionist and harmonium player Mally Harpaz in 2006, and later enlisting drummer Daniel Maiden-Wood. Calvi's early performances took place in and around London in late 2008 and 2009. Her debut single, an electrifying cover of the Edith Piaf standard "Jezebel," was released in the fall of 2010.
